|
|
I haven't posted since January and so I wanted to check-in.
I will be taking a permanent job with the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) starting in August. Unlike my current job where I mostly use my economics background to advise on policy, this newly created job will have me bringing more statistical analysis and program evaluation to the White House and several departments (Labor, Education, Health and Human Services, etc.). In a lot of ways it would have me do for the White House what I have been doing for the last couple years for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
It will mean that I am giving up tenure at UNC-Greensboro. That is hard, but this is such a great opportunity to make a difference that I could not pass it up.
And it turned out that going back to UNC-Greensboro wasn't my second best option. Danny Ferry and the CEO of Quicken Loans came up with a really creative position that would have had me playing an expansive role with both the Cavaliers and Quicken Loans. But in the end with both positions having similar perks and both jobs allowing me a lot of latitude to creatively make a difference, the extra security (and warmer weather) with the OMB job won out.
Plus it looks like I might be able to continue helping with the Cavaliers - although in a more limited role. |

I'm confused about your priorities. When are people going to learn that basketball is more important than the national economy?
Knock 'em dead, Dan. |

Hopefully your new job keeps you really really busy so there isn't any time to help out any NBA teams...
Seriously though, if there's one place in America that could use more rational analysis, it's Washington DC. So congrats & good luck in the new job!

Congratuations to Dan! My own school's department also had a prof on the CEA this year, to our relief she is coming back -- giving her tenure may've helped lure her back! (OTOH looking at Dan's CV I see that he already had tenure at UNCG.) |
