This looks great David,

Just to check that I am looking at the data correctly, does oberto really have an offensive rating of 137 and a DRtg of 102.5?

And Billy Thomas has an ORtg of 250?

Has Solomon Jones not passed the ball in 31 minutes of playing time?

Ha, to answer the questions: Yes, yes, and not really... Re: Jones and Thomas, the numbers are going to be weird for guys with almost no playing time. The %pass estimates are based on assists, and Jones hasn't gotten one yet, so it only looks like he hasn't passed -- but I'm sure he passed it once or twice, right?

As for Oberto, he's just playing really really efficiently on offense right now: 63 TS% with almost no turnovers. He's also playing a very small role in the Spurs' offense, taking only 12% of the possessions and 11% of the shots when he's on the floor... Ask him to do more, and I guarantee you that ORtg drops like a rock. Oh, and his low DRtg is a byproduct of having solid defensive rebound/block/steal rates on one of the best defenses in the league.

Glad you guys are enjoying the numbers!

I must be miscalculating something somewhere, because I'm getting Kevin Durant as being on a pace to get 15.65 player losses this year according to those numbers, which is far more than any player has ever gotten.

As for player losses, I couldn't tell you. I don't have games started (which I think you need to calc "player games"), and besides, I'd rather look at WARP than pW-pL anyway... Durant's above the replacement level now, at least.

I don't think you can find the official formula anywhere except within the pages of Basketball on Paper, where it's described in tortuous detail.

Hate to bother Davis, but I really like his updates! Any recent updates?

Thanks for your work.

Sorry about the infrequent updates; it's probably going to be weekends only for the time being (meaning you'll definitely get one tomorrow morning). For a midweek fix, http://www.basketball-reference.com/ is the place to go -- now, if we could only get Justin to calculate "usage" correctly... Laughing
