I'm just wondering if there's any meaning in "backcourt possesions" or "frontcourt possesions" ?
Is only "team possesions" valuable for research ? Can subcategories, like backcourt, have possesions ? _________________ http://www.hoopsstats.com - The ultimate source for NBA Stats |

You could maybe use Dean Oliver's method for calculating offensive possessions for individual players, and sum that up for backcourt and frontcourt players. See Basketball on Paper for the details.
Maybe Hollinger's Usage Rate could be used here as a simpler alternative? I guess offensive rebounds would have to be included, somehow. |

Mainly I'm interested to know if there's any meaning in backcourt possesions and if it helps stats research, not how to calculate them, but thanx deepak_e...
One more question : Are team possesions the sum of :
- number of made shots
- number of turnovers
- number of missed shots that the other team rebounded on defense
- number of times they shoot free throws after a foul ( only for missed 2-point or 3-point attempts )
?
Do I forget something ? _________________ http://www.hoopsstats.com - The ultimate source for NBA Stats |
