Hey Guys,

I'm a longtime reader of this board, but infrequently post. I've just finished editing/writing the inaugural Tar Heel Tip-Off-- a preview annual for UNC basketball.

This publication contains +/- data, defensive box score stats, shooting by area data, advanced passing stats, etc. We've also done some analysis on the value of experience in the ACC, what recruiting rankings really mean, and how college players develop by position.

Since this is an annual (or hopes to be), I'm always looking for potential contributions for next year's publication. If anyone is interested in UNC basketball or the ACC and/or wants to do an advanced charting project and turn it into an article, please be in touch (freeportkid@nc.rr.com). I have a huge database of UNC and ACC statistics, and can help supply data if anyone is interested in historical research.

I know this is primarily an NBA site, but I also know that many of you are college hoops fans too. Since the best and brightest of the stats community can be found here, I figured I'd post a "call for proposals."

Thanks,

Adrian

As a Tar Heel, I'm very glad to see this and will certainly add it to my library.

As to writing, we'll see. I can't speak about college players while I work for a team...

You should write about a real school, like Virginia. Doing this for UNC is a waste of your time since none of their graduates can read.

We'll include a lot of pretty pictures in case Ralph Sampson gets his hands on a copy.

I do admit that it might be interesting to write a UVa-themed essay on how historically bad the Soroye-Mikalauskas post combo is.

I do use some PER and modified Hollinger Similarity Scores in the book, so hopefully John won't be too offended to have his name linked to a UNC publication.

I'm a Carolina grad as well. As a Tar Heel, you might be interested in an article that I co-wrote last year positing that Tar Heels have had the most success in the NBA over the past 60 years:

Of course, Duke's contribution has been pathetic...

Thanks for the link, Heather.

I remember reading that piece when it came out. If you're interested in discussing a topic for next year's Tip-Off, please let me know. It would be great to have some respected names (and Carolina fans/alums) in the APBRmetrics community contribute to next year's annual.

The top dozen schools by pro success of its players all deserve some respect.

Titles of all past players would of course tell a different, fuller story but just looking at current: NBA titles of 12 UNC alumni currently in NBA: 1- Rasheed Wallace; NBA titles of 12 Duke alumni currently in NBA: 0. Not a huge difference. Each has several players on arguably the top 10 contenders so the number of titles might grow in next few years. Other schools can point to more current player titles (Wake Forest, LSU, Kentucky, Florida, Kansas...though some are leading players and some just bit players).

06-07 top 50 on PER

UNC 2
Duke 4 (looks like the most)
Wake Forest 3
Georgetown, Arizona with 2
But it is worth noting, those with no American college experience- 17
