Sorry, guys, I forgot to set this up yesterday. Hope the loss of a day doesn't affect anyone. If so, we'll change the schedule to a week long starting on Tuesday at midnight.
Vote here for NBL players who retired by the end of 1945-46. Discussion is welcomed. I will edit this thread to track the voters and their selections. I will update every day. Once the voting is over, those enshrined will be placed in a separate thread. As I mentioned before, I would like to see people volunteer to write mini-biographies on the inductees.
The voting will read as such: Player Name, Votes (Number of Voters): Voter User Names
Voting:
Howie "Soup Cable 4 (6): Bobster, 94by50, RocketsFan, gabefarkas
Jack Ozburn 4 (6): Bobster, 94by50, RocketsFan, gabefarkas
Jewell Young 2 (6): Bobster, gabefarkas
Vince McGowan 1 (6): gabefarkas

of this groups jack ozburn of akron firestone sticks out since he was all-NBL 4 times [1937-38 to 1940-41] howie "soup" cable of akron firestone was all-NBL three times and jewell young of indianapolis was all-NBL 1st team twice so i'd be inclined to include them too. they all have modest stats by modern standards, but pretty good for their day both scoring about 10 points a games when the league leader usually varied from about 11 to 18 points a game.
there were some players who had relatively short pro careers like john wooden [who quit to become a high school coach] or ben stephens who were top quality players at the time but they don't meet our 4 season or 200 games played criteria [keeping in mind that nearly all the players of the early NBL had short careers because it wasn't a profitable way for a player to make a livelihood - many went on to coaching or other jobs].
and since i'd like to see some representation for the early NBL players i'll vote yes on ozburn, cable and young, no to the other candicates. _________________ Robert Bradley

Robert, do you have a comprehensive list of the NBL's awards voting throughout that league's history? |

Two points: Remember to bold your picks, and if you think nobody from the class belongs, vote nobody like so, so I will know you have voted. |

My knowledge of the pre-1947 NBL is not comprehensive, so I based my votes on the supplied all-league and most valuable player lists. I created a rating system - A player earned 1 pt for each MVP, 2 pts for each All-League first team, and 1 pt for each All-League second team. I set the cutoff for voting at 12 points or more (an arbritrary number, but one i felt was the fairest). Using this criteria, I cast votes for Bobby McDermott, Charlie Shipp, and Leroy Edwards. |

I just realized that none of the three players I voted for were deemed eligible for this election. Therefore, I guess my vote changes to none. |

Is Robert's list the "official" list of eligible players? |
