Does anyone have a database set up to track player salaries compared to their statistics? I'd like to do this, to see the average salary of a 15ppg scorere (or better) and then a 20ppg scorer (or better). And then a 10rpg player. My guess would be that scorers get paid the most but who knows really. I'd also like to see what the correlation is with PER, and +/- stats to see if good defenders get paid. |

82games.com did a very interesting study based upon 2003-04 statistics found here. You can select the team links for more players outside of the top 50.

USA Today did a study or overpriced and bargain players that can be found here http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/2005-03-29-salary-package_x.htm
I believe olcoach43 had a long PER/salary ratio list on his site but russellratings.com is not online right now. If he still stops by, maybe he could post or tell you if it is online elsewhere.
The actual salary /PER might be side by side online in the fantasy stats world somewhere, especially at beginning of the year.
Real GM individual player profile pages show salary rank next to performance rank but I dont know for sure what performance formula they use, but its probably tendex since they use that elsewhere when comparing top performers.
Basketball reference has the data but it is not a field you can query against anything. It would a valuable addition to the APBR stats query to allow moneyball questions. Position would be a great additon there too. |
