All,

Sorry for the delay, but I've added the 2008 playoff data to basketballvalue.com. The data is of the same form as usual, with the exception of adjusted +/-. Rather than calculate it on a small dataset, I've combined the playoff data with the regular season data but weighted the playoffs as 15x as important as the regular season.

This weighting is based on the ratio of the number of possessions in the 2007 playoffs to the 2007-2008 regular season. There were approximately 15x as many possessions in the regular season as the playoffs, so this weighting is intended to treat the regular season and the playoffs as equally important overall. Of course, this implies a playoff game is more important than the regular season since there are fewer of them.

As always, you can still view the unadjusted data. The unadjusted data show for the playoffs is solely from the playoff games. With the small sample size, there can be some outlier results. Click here to see the top players based on unadjusted +/- (Overall Rating = On Court-Off Court).

Please let me know if you have any comments or find any issues on the website.

Thanks,
Aaron

Thanks for the access to the data.

And the adjusted +/- explanation.

Even as small samples the pure playoff adjusted figures would be of some interest.

I can somewhat back into at least knowing improvement or decline from reguiar season adjusted by comparing regular season adjusted to the playoff blend. But the 15x multiplier won't give equal weighting to every team though and not this early. I think the multiplier could be managed to achieve an equal split continuously for everyone if you had the time and thought it was worth it. It could be done I guess by the curious manually as well with the proper weight of playoff time completed.
