Before Danny Ainge took the helm in Boston, Celtic fans suffered the insult of being lumped into the “fellowship of the miserable”. After the May 22 draft lottery assigned them the fifth pick in draft, many people viewed the Celtics as dead in the water and irrelevant. To that point, the turbulent Ainge era had a growing number of opponents that questioned the direction of his leadership. Danny has silenced his critics and put the Celtics back on the map. The unexpected transformation is shocking. Danny pulled a rabbit out of his hat.

The benefits to the Celtics are obvious. Building a roster that is competitive and puts fans in the seats are two of the primary responsibilities of the executive in charge. The Celtics broke records for season ticket sales two days in a row. Emergence from the doldrums has Celtic Nation pumped. The leprechaun lives.

The Celtics in the mix is an attention-garnering windfall for the NBA. Few things benefit a pro league more than increased competition. The net gain of taking an also ran (liability) off the books and adding an organization to the high profile contending category has significant positive ramifications for the league. NBA hoop is big business with a marketing machine that does a fine job promoting the game around the globe. The Celtics have created a stirring and loud buzz that will add luster to the NBA product. Delivering a fresh and improved persona to the public raises interest and excitement levels. The NBA’s television, advertising and assorted other partners will be pleased and the coffers will be fattened.

The Celtics mystique, popularity and storied history have always been an asset to the league. The polished up version adds value to the NBA as a business. The league does not have this sort of good fortune very often so it is difficult to come up with a comparable case but it could be weighed against the Knicks “luck” in getting Pat Ewing as the number one pick. Did K McHale buckle to the ghost of my mentor Red Auerbach? Conspiracy theorists might even believe that McHale plotted to help out his old team? LOL

I attended every Celtic home game in the run of the Big Three through the 1980‘s. In deference to the Hall of Fame and title accomplishments of Bird Parish and McHale, the new Celtic core is a trio that needs its own name and identity.

BP, you have started 11 of the last 18 threads. None of them seem to have anything to do with stat analysis, which is what this group is basically about. Many here feel this is just a lot of clutter. If you wish to join any discussion and add your opinions, that's fine; but preferably if it's relevant. As far as just peppering these forums with your random extended observations: I think there may be better venues for that.

Over at APBR, you placed the same 'Hooray for Pat Riley' comments in about 15 locations. How can you hope to have a discussion going on in 15 different places? If you place one comment, then return to that thread for your next one, it will receive just as much notice, and have a chance at continuing discourse.

Also, it doesn't seem as if you've even read replies before you post your next one. This probably leads some to think you're just a 'troll', ie, someone posting without relevance or interaction.

Just some friendly advice.

Mike G

A glitch in the system is such that I have not yet been receiving e-mails that confirm replies to my posts.

My recent posts are far from non-statistical in orientation and I won’t back track. Years of extensive statistical investigation and research pertinent to consistently defeating “superior” opponents (CDSO) has me looking forward.

Techniques and fundamentals are parts of execution that affect efficiencies. The sum of a team’s offensive efficiency, defensive efficiency and rebounding performance yields a point differential, which corresponds to a winning percentage. Quite elementary. I intend to post original and advanced statistical concepts in the near future. Am I wrong to think that APBRmetrics is the proper place for it?

New and better basketball coaching methods that provide competitive advantage are justified by unique numerical proofs that confirm and quantify the gains. Once in a great while name-dropping serves a purpose, so here goes. Dean O has seen my AB stats and other proprietary derivations. Dean was on my list of calls today and I spoke to him because George Karl and Mark Warkentein both expressed interest in my programs prior to Dean working in Denver. Numbers are crucial to me but they take a back seat to coaching.

For purposes of productivity and efficient use of time, I have a strong preference to avoid hassle. Regrettably, I am so busy that little time is available to contribute and assist others. I have observed your posts and data/rankings for years. A few people might think that they are a hair short of perfect.

Your friendly advice had a bit of a negative tone Mike. My advice to you is to relax and be patient. I would appreciate the courtesy. Fall back dude

References to being a troll by you, jeffpotts77 and supersub15 is not much of a deterrent. I will do what I do. The manner is mine to choose. You feelin me playah?

Perhaps you will consider a comment from the forum administrator more of a "deterrent."

I am also uncertain of the relevance of this thread and particularly the title. Please pick your spots.

The oddest thing about this is that B Purist's writing style reminds me of the Nigerian who wants to split his dead uncle's fortune with me, but needs me to wire him $2K in the meantime to cover his costs.

Never mind the load of double-speak too...
