Dear colleagues,

I am trying to obtain more information about some indexes to evaluate player performance. One of them is "Magic Metric". However, I have problems to deepen into the rationale of the formula, and the procedure achieved ot obtain the weights:

Magic Metric = (1.8*FGM)+(0.9*FTM)+(3*3PM)+(0.65*TR)+(0.9*AST)+(0.8*BLK)+STL-(0.65*FGMissed)-(0.5*FTMissed)-TO

The other is IBM Award. Its formula can be found in an article of David Berri published in 1999: Who is ‘Most Valuable’? Measuring the Player’s Production of Wins in the National Basketball Association.

However, Berri did no explain the procedure to obtain this formula.

As these two formulas are not very used today (I think both are not used yet), any additional information will be highly valuable
Thanks!
