Hi all. I am new to this board (it was referred to me by my brother). I am currently a senior in college and an Industrial and Management Engineer. I'm focused mainly on Operations Research and Quality Statistics. This semester I am taking a class called Computational Intelligence and I have a term long project on Basketball Scheduling. I will be using linear programming as well as genetic algorithms to try to create schedules for the Liberty League. If you have any suggestions in terms of constraints or variables (for instance home vs away, site availability, travel cost minimizing, student absence minimizing, etc.) or any suggestions for sources to investiagate, it would be much appreciated. I have already found some useful information, but you guys seem to have a lot of insight into these types of things. Thanks in advance. Also, for anyone interested, I eventually would like to go into management of a professional basketball franchise. I intend to achieve my masters in my current field within a year and eventually going on to get my MBA. If anyone knows of any internships or part-time positions available that lean towards my particular skills and area of interest, that would be incredible. Thanks again and I look forward to browsing through some legitimate statistical analysis of my favorite sport in the world!

I appreciate it. I had already done a search and have found a thesis on practically the same thing. It turns out the league I'm observing uses travel partners, so now it is just a matter of determining how to optimize that. Most likely I will try to minimize distance traveled through my pairing seeing as travel partners are primarily used to minimize the teams time away from campus and thereby minimize students' absences. If any one has any advice for how to go about coding this genetic algorithm, it would be much appreciated. I have to use MATLAB.
