Hello all
I'm new to this board, so please consider this note a simple "casting of the net" to as wide an audience as possible.
The Stats & Analysis Team is a new department at ESPN. We acquire, scrub and deliver all clock, score and stats across every platform (TV, Radio, Online, Mobile, etc.) for the company.
We're always looking for people who can help us develop unique content that differentiates us from other mainstream sports companies.
While our first priority is to ensure fast and accurate delivery of stats in real-time and postgame, we want to do much more on the analytical side. To this point, we're developing comprehensive and grandular historical data warehouses.
I know this is a basketball-specific board, but we're interested in improving our analytics across every sport.
If you're interested in hearing more, or would like to chat, please shoot me an email at noel.nash@espn.com. |

This sounds like a great idea. I am interested. Shoot me an e-mail and go over the general idea with me. For the past 8 years I have been gathering all the information and data from history books and magazines to create a huge database that would eventually be put into a huge history encylopedia on the NBA, every box score, every player that ever played and his career, playoff, all-star statistics including all the in depth coverage. Sounds like a great idea and I would be glad to help out the data sports guys at ESPN. _________________ Greg Eggleston

It would be awesome if you made all data so that it would be easy to import into Excel using a web query. |

Yeah I usually work on this 6 days a week and I'll go at least 2-3 of those days straight with no sleep. Unfortunately my laptop and all my flashdrives that had my backup data were stolen out of my office during our season when we were at practice so I'm in the process of re-starting "everything", but creating my spreadsheets to look incredible. I'm working on the current 2007-08 boxscores and I got my new laptop and new flashdrives for christmas so I'm up to 12/25/07 boxscores. I'm gonna have to wait till summer to make all the player profiles over again. I know it will take a long time, but I'm committed. If anyone has any data that they would like to pass along to me as long as it can be put into an excel spreadsheet I would be very appreciative. _________________ Greg Eggleston

Game flow charts was a nice add this year.
You would also consider adding 4 factors and efficiency stats to your live boxscores. _________________ http://www.nbastuffer.com |

Granular is suggestive to me of being at play by play level. |

Actually, I wasn't sure if he meant "granular" (as Mountain described it), or "glandular", which (besides its more commonly-known meaning) can figuratively mean categorized and/or segmented. |
