Ice Storm December 2007This page contains photos of the damage wrought by the ice storm in central Oklahoma of December 9th and 10th, 2007. A radar loop of the storm, from the Weather Underground archives (1.8mb): Significant freezing rain fell over almost 2 days, totalling well over an inch of rain--about 3/4" accumulated on our exposed surfaces here in Norman (just above Noble on that map). Photos of the DamageFirst, a before and after photo of the back yard: Before the storm (by about a month) After the storm, but before all of the branches fell. Many are already down. The final damage. The hackberry, to the left (I think that is what it is--or was), and the mature Bradford Pear (in the center) lost nearly all of their branches. The smaller trees fared better. More Photos of the Damage: Part of the front yard after the storm took down many branches--the elms along the fence lost most of their branches. Our road, with broken trees lining it. This was taken after the city came along and got most of the branches off our road. On the way to town, with several power poles down. As of the 15th, they were still not repaired (5 days after the storm). In town, the Bradford pears were devestated, mostly because they were still holding their leaves. Our road in a different location, still blocked by a (nearly) downed tree. Finally--the ice wasn't all bad. It was really quite beautiful, and pictures do not do it justice. But here is one, of our budding Carolina Jessamine out in the front yard. The flowers in bloom didn't hold up as well to the ice.
