Again this year I am entering a number of photos in the county fair. I just got a new camera, so some of these are from the old Canon S1 IS and some are from the new Nikon d40x.
I won't give captions on where these came from, but I will list the locations: 2 from Maine, 2 from New York, 2 from Miami, Oklahoma, 2 from Goldsby, Oklahoma, 1 from Oklahoma City, and 3 from Norman, Oklahoma. Those with the wider aspect ratio (shorter, since all here are the same width) came from my new camera.
Color: Still Life. A nice still life, with interesting objects and lighting. Unfortunately, when printed and matted, there is not enough room on the edges.
Color: Scenery. A nice little waterfall with good lighting. The water is a little over-exposed, but the textures are good on the rocks. Not, in case anyone was wondering, from Oklahoma. We don't have those here.
Color: People. Searching for salamanders. Probably the second-best people picture I've ever taken (after one of my great uncle in his cabin in Colorado--a picture which ribboned in '05).
Color: Flowers. Morning glories in their morning glory. Mounds of them. Beautiful subjects with good lighting.
Color: Insects. A bumble bee on a gaillardia, or Indian Blanket, our state flower. I note that insects on flowers usually do well at the fair...
Color: Action. A bumble bee with bee balm, coming in for a landing. I don't like the look of this picture, but my mom loves it, so I'm entering it. I didn't have anything else for action, anyway.
Color: Animals. A cute dog. What else?
Black and White: Action. Flood waters against a tree. The tree eventually succumbed to the water.
Black and White: Animals. Not really an animal picture, but too good not to enter somewhere. That's not a live scorpion, just a molt.
Black and White: Flowers. A nice, peaceful lily.
Black and White: Still Life. A wood table, two jars, forks, and a platter of bar cookies. And nice lighting.
Black and White: Insects. A dragonfly at rest, with a shadow behind.
