I am entering 11 photos in the Cleveland County Fair this year. Some of these categories are rather hard to define, like "still life" and "scenery." I am not exactly sure whether my color still life photo goes in that category at all--thus, I have no expectation of getting any ribbon with that photo. The best photos this year, in my opinion, are the color flower and insect pictures, and the black and white animals and still life pictures.
The flower photo came from our front flower bed--it was the only one of Sarah's Gladiolus to come up and flower. The photo of the Monarch butterfly and the bumblebee was taken last October in our flower/vegetable garden out back. I got quite a few photos of the Monarch, and several with the bumblebee. The photo of the horses came on a trip to Kansas in March to my great uncle's 60th wedding anniversary. The horses were across the street from his house. Note how flat the area is, and old telegraph lines in the distance. The still life photo was also taken up there in Modoc, Kansas, home of some 15 people I would guess. That was taken about 150 yards from his house. Quite picturesque in one sense, though it was a rather grey and incredibly windy day (thus no color photos). There aren't any hills to block the wind within a hundred miles, I would guess. And almost no trees outside of the towns.
