With the expansion Hornets of 1988-89, Sidney Lowe averaged 1.6 pts and 6.6 ast, in 18 MPG. His FG% was .320 and TS% was .385. But he leads the team in ORtg, at 121.8
Only players ranking above Lowe that year (>250 minutes) are Barkley, Magic, Rod Higgins, Jordan, Stockton, and AC Green. After Lowe are Price, Brian Rowsom, Trent Tucker, McHale, Rodman, Dale Ellis ...
Why is this stat called "offensive rating"? Some of these guys are about the weakest offensive players known.

My guess is that it's the assists driving the rating. 17.9 assists per 48 minutes with just 1.7 turnovers.

Players with high offensive ratings aren't necessarily the best point producers. I prefer the term offensive efficiency to offensive rating, but use the latter because Dean Oliver does. _________________ Regards,

Doing some unrelated research, I notice that I have Lowe circa 1988-89 rated as the second-best passing season in NBA history, minimum 250 minutes. (Which is to say he played way too little for me to really consider it, but if that's not offense, what passing is?)
