I posted this on the APBR board yesterday and heard crickets, so I'll try it here instead:

I was wondering if someone here would be willing to post a list of all ABA playoff MVPs. My original source for the data was this page:
http://www.remembertheaba.com/ABAStatistics/Awards.html
However, I have been informed that there are some errors in their list. Any help this group can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I think this is probably in Total Basketball, but I don't have a copy. _________________ Regards,

Thanks Bob. Does that mean the ABA did not select a playoff MVP the first three seasons of the league? _________________ Regards,

not that i've ever found any evidence of.
it could be like the NBA rookie of the year where it was awarded earlier [and now not listed in the NBA Guide], but until i see some sort of evidence i believe this to be the complete list. _________________ Robert Bradley

Steve Dimitry's ABA web page lists the same MVPs that Bob listed but also lists the following MVPs: 1968, Connie Hawkins; 1969, Warren Armstrong; 1970, Roger Brown. Looking at the performances in those championship series, those three players would certainly have been the logical choices for MVP. At some point, SPORT magazine was involved with selecting and awarding playoff MVPs, not just for the ABA, but also for the Super Bowl and possibly other events. Does anyone know which year SPORT became involved in selecting Playoff MVPs? Maybe the SPORT May, June or July (depending on the publication lag at the time) issues from 1968, 1969 and 1970 contain the answers to these questions. I think that at least one of Dr. J's Playoff MVPs was selected by SPORT and that an article was written about the award in that magazine. I also remember Dick Schaap, who was the editor of SPORT for a while, telling a story about how Manny Fernandez was mad at him for years for not selecting him as Super Bowl MVP despite his dominant performance (I believe that Jake Scott won the MVP that year, but I am going off the top of my head). The point is that SPORT became involved in this process at some time, so the answers to these questions may very well be found in back issues of that magazine.
Dimitry's page can be found here:
