I'm not the best at noticing these kind of things, but it seems like much of the Cavs' defensive success the last two games has been a result of them switching on the pick and roll. Billups and Sheed have killed teams all year with the play, but Varejao has been switching onto Billups and that seems to be causing the Pistons a lot of problems. I don't have numbers on this, but from what I remember I don't think teams switched against the Pistons much during the season, perhaps because they lacked a long and quick big like Varejao. Has anyone else noticed this? Has anyone done any research on pick and roll defenses (I know Kevin P had a great article on 82games earlier this year)? |
