I was taking a look at the numbers on 82games.com and it appears to me that the Suns defend the point guard the best...
oPER:
C- 17.8
PF- 17.6
SF- 15.3
SG- 14.8
PG- 13.8
Also in DPSA (Sorry for still using PSA )
C- 1.12
PF- 1.03
SF- 0.98
SG- 1.03
PG- 0.95
And my quick and mildly useful (for me at least) DEFRtg ((OppPts-(.72*Blk)-OppTo+(.35*PF))/(OppFGA+(.44*OppFTA))*10)
C- 9.68
PF- 8.80
SF- 8.93
SG- 9.54
PG- 8.36
Nash has a reputation as a terrible defender...and Barbosa looks to be pretty solid, but there's no way he plays enough to make up for it...especially when I look at just Nash's numbers in the above three stats: 13.8, 0.99, 8.45...all of those are quite a bit below the league averages and only Dallas and Denver as a team post better PG DEFRtgs (Indiana is behind by just .01)...
I've only seen a few Suns games, the last one being their first game against the Spurs, so I don't remember if they're trapping the point like the Celtics did a few years back...
So, my question is, does anyone have any insight into the Suns defense? Is Nash really a good defender despite the reputation? Or are the numbers skewed by something else? _________________ a. stat. n00b. |
