I've been trying to understand PER for over a year now and I've had some help along the way from various members on here explaining and breaking down the method in find PER and I appreciate their comments and teachings. I do however now have come across what I think is the last roadblock for me in order to calculate PER in my databases. My question is about the pace adjustment part. I was told one of the ways to find aPERlg is to calculate uPER with league totals instead of totals for one specific player. I have done that but what I get into trouble or confused for a better word is when you make the pace adjustment so that uPERlg becomes aPERlg. The formula for pace adjustment is lgPace/tmPace, but if you are doing the uPER for the entire league wouldn't the pace be the same? If that is correct then your pace adjustment is either 0 or 1? If someone could explain this a littler further to me or perhaps send me a private message and give me more insight I would be very appreciative. One situation where I calculated uPER for Tariq Abdul-Wahad in the 1998-99 season when he played with the Sacramento Kings I had the aPERlg with league averages and not league totals and I was able to get 11.9 as his PER and I was one tenth off or I got the same result as on B-R.com. So if it is using league averages and not league totals I would gladly appreciate anyones feedback and comments. _________________ Greg Eggleston
