|
|
The first APBR meeting is beginning to be planned. We are scheduling it for September of this year in Las Vegas in conjunction with the NBA retired players meeting. At this point, we don't have an itinerary, in part because we want to get a good sense of how many could attend. This will be a broad APBR meeting, not just a Metrics meeting.
Please let us know through responses here about likelihood of attending and interests.
Thanks. _________________ Dean Oliver

Can you be more specific in terms of date and time?
I doubt you care, but September is a difficult month for me because I have football games most (or all) weekends. |

I'll be in Vegas at the end of June, so 0% chance. |

Thanks. | Too far from where I live. Why don't you do this in Spain (after all they are the kings of basketball for the moment ), that's closer to Belgium. There is more culture also in for example a city like Madrid than in Vegas. With the globalization of basketball why not. _________________ Where There's a WilT There's a Way |

Ditto.
-MZ (though Barcelona does sound good too. If we're going international, though, I would also propose Rome, 3 weeks later.) |

Falls are killer for me with my teaching schedule, so I just don't think I will be able to make it. I will regret not being able to go. |

Vegas is close to me so I could easily make it.
Three days seems a tad ambitious perhaps, especially given some of us aren't quite as talkative as we once were.
What kind of events/discussions did you have in mind? |

Some follow ups:
- It sounds like it will be a fairly small meeting, making it a good opportunity to really get to know the people involved in APBR.
- Sessions will probably occur over just one day. The NBA Old Timers will be there and active for longer.
- There will be some sort of press release to help establish the APBR as a formal organization -- which is what has been happening over the last several months.
- At the Las Vegas meeting, we are planning session(s) on Hall of Fame issues. There is planned to be a general session and a statistical breakout session. My hope is that the session will not just be about naming who stats think should be in the Hall. I'd like to think that there are a large number of statistical data, financial data, miscellaneous data relevant to selections that the Metrics people can take time collecting. There is potential for APBR to have an impact on Hall of Fame issues in the long term. This is the start.

A statistical breakout session! Cool. I'll bring a boombox and my old Addidas track suit. Funkay!
Looks like I'm almost definitely going to make it, so keep us updated. _________________ ed |

I'd put my chances of being there at about 60-40 right now. |
