http://hoopdata.com/boxscores.aspx

We now have daily box scores with advanced stats (pretty much everything in our database: four factors, offeff, defeff, possessions, shot locations, assist locations, TS%, eFG%, RebRate, USG, AR, TOR, and1s, +/-, charges, blocked against, assisted field goals, etc). We've populated the entire 0910 season and this will be updated nightly after the last game of the night has concluded.

Let me know if there's anything we can add, improve upon, or if you spot any errors.

Thanks for the feedback as always.

Oh, and I'm sure this is going to be the first thing suggested, because everyone is so used to it from the other box score sites. We'll have buttons for Previous/Next day on all the box scores pages soon. That's something I forgot we needed and didn't notice until I actually started browsing around the pages myself, when it became pretty obvious.

Very cool.

I have a small suggestion not related to the box scores. I know you have a "Home" link in the top left, but could you have your logo (also in the top left) link to the home page as well? At most sites the logo does this, so I always try to click it.

Yeah, sorry, someone asked me about that like a month ago and I forgot to do it. I'll get around to it later today.

Hmm, just last week I said:

Quote:
Most of the really valuable stuff is in play-by-plays, so it's trackable but putting it in box scores would make things easier, especially at the game level.

It's nice to know I have this kind of power. Seriously, great stuff.

That's great.

Is there a glossary for some of the columns? For example, I don't know what AFGM means.

AFGM is Assisted Field Goals Made. And yeah, we don't have a glossary on this page like we do on our regular database. Incorporating it in the same way would be highly burdensome and take up a lot of space. I have another solution that would be easy on the user and unobtrusive, but I don't have the time to put it in right now, and might not be able to until after the holidays.

We'll have something resembling a glossary at some point, though. If you have any questions before then, let me know here and I'll be happy to answer.

Thanks for the good feedback all around, and thanks for the twitter love, Kevin.

That's a lot of new data made available.

If you wanted to add even more I'd suggest adding Team Offensive and Defensive Efficiency for each player while on the court (and maybe off). It would help in making sense of the +/-. Where did the team excel or lag to create that +/-?

Time on the shot clock splits in some fashion would be interesting too. At player level and team too. Consistent with the 82 games splits or maybe first 8 seconds (or 7 if you want to use the Phoenix cut), the middle and then the last four seconds?

Shot clock information unfortunately can't be done based on the way we automatically track things from play-by-plays. Impossible to account for offensive rebounds that don't hit the rim and sideline out of bounds with resets, and there's probably 4-5 other issues that would likewise be problematic.

Advanced +/- (OffEff, DefEff, Four Factors) is possible but I don't think that's something we'll be able to program this season, unless someone who has already tackled that kind of parsing on their own wanted to contribute to the site.

Possessions are already tracked and I'd think that with team points at every substitution you could get to offensive and defensive efficiency for players reasonably putting points over possessions for every player stint (not that different from the individual stats?) but I'm not writing the script or compiling the results and it is just a suggestion.

Tabs would improve usability. Something like that makes sense for me at least.

what equation are you using for possessions in your boxscores (in the link below you show 99).
