Does anyone know of a source of data by player for drawing offensive fouls? |

Yea, I checked hoopdata earlier today and noticed it wasn't there for this season. Data collection problem?
It must be available somewhere because the Knicks announcers often make comments about Gallinari being high on the list. |

If you are after charges, it is tricky to find; but it is on player pages like this one at the very bottom - right corner of the page:
http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=Nick%20Collison
Charges for some reason are not showing up on the league wide or set search criteria page. |

Thank a lot. I knew someone here could find it for me. |

NBA teams get direct feeds from the league office, which is how their announcers can reference stats. There is no public source of information recording charges accurately this season that I'm aware of because the NBA, per request of NBA teams, started distinguishing between "charges" and "offensive fouls" this season, whereas all public play-by-play is only set up to record the latter. The former is just logged as a turnover and can't be attributed to anyone.
We still have past seasons in our database but we're not tracking it this season because I'd rather track nothing than track something with incredibly poor accuracy, especially when I'd be getting five emails a day about why we're missing 75% of Glen Davis' offensive fouls drawn. _________________ http://www.hoopdata.com |

I haven't looked at much public data, but is this what you're talking about?
Quote: | 10:38 32-19 Sean Marks offensive charge (James Posey draws the foul)
10:38 32-19 Sean Marks turnover |
What am I missing? Isn't this everything you need? _________________ I am a basketball geek. |

Was the reason they made the request to hide charge data from the public? |

Hmm, looks like they started tracking both. Good to know, hadn't checked in awhile. They only started tracking charges in addition to fouls in the past month. Check the PBP's from Oct-mid Dec and you won't find any "charges."
Not sure what to do for tracking this season now, however. Don't want to run incomplete numbers. _________________ http://www.hoopdata.com |

Oh well that's fun. Kinda how in 2006-07 not every game had which shots were three pointers. _________________ I am a basketball geek. |

It is not clear that all the scorers at all the arenas are properly distinguishing between the two yet - we've noticed a couple teams' players, over the early part of the season, had far more "offensive fouls" drawn than "charges" drawn. The league is aware of this but a change like this can take some time to perfect.
Having said that, I'm happy they started distinguishing between the two. This allows differentiation between illegal screens (the majority of non-charge offensive fouls) and the more traditional "charge," whereas before the two were lumped into one bucket.
